Soccer Recap: Meridian/Sangamon Valley Comes Up Short

Meridian/Sangamon Valley lost against Athens/PORTA back in April of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Hawks came up short against the Warriors, falling 9-0. While losing is never fun, Meridian/Sangamon Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 259th, while Athens/PORTA are ranked 78th).

Meridian/Sangamon Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-4-2. As for Athens/PORTA, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Meridian/Sangamon Valley wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and has already played their next contest, an 8-0 victory against Decatur Eisenhower on the 11th. As for Athens/PORTA, they also didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next match, a 9-0 win against Riverton/Tri-City on the 10th.
