Softball Recap: Knightstown Victorious

It was a proper cat-fight when Knightstown duked it out with Rushville on Wednesday. The Panthers walked away with a 10-5 win over the Lions. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 8-1 victory the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Mae Hersberger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Lanee Swindell was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Lyla Trigg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Knightstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.

The win got Knightstown back to even at 4-4. As for Rushville, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Knightstown didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-1 defeat against Lapel on the 24th. As for Rushville, they have also already played their next contest, a 10-6 loss against East Central on the 28th.
