Basketball Recap: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. Hunt Warriors
Smithfield-Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost to the Hunt Warriors at home by a 65-51 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 61-52 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Leading Hunt to victory were Tyler Pridgen and Austin Joyner. Pridgen went 7 for 10 on his way to 14 points and five assists, while Joyner went 6 of 14 on his way to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Joyner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Hampton, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points.
Smithfield-Selma's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Hunt, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Smithfield-Selma will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Fike at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Hunt and Southern Nash will round out the year against one another at at 8:00 p.m. on December 26th.
