Basketball Recap: Matthew Lorje Key Part of a Team Effort in Lancers Win

Tennyson's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against the Mt. Diablo Red Devils by a score of 53-45. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lancers also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Tennyson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew Lorje, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 23 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Lorje's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lance Clunie, who posted 19 points.

With the victory, Tennyson broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-8. As for Mt. Diablo, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Tennyson and Mt. Diablo could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Tennyson (ranked 1085th) will meet Hayward (ranked 366th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Mt. Diablo will square off against Campolindo at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 1,121 places (1164 vs. 43).
