Softball Recap: Michigan City Comes Up Short

Michigan City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They lost 17-1 to the South Bend Riley Wildcats. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by exactly 16 runs.

Michigan City saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ann Sawyer, who went 1-for-2 with one run. A'Zealiah Turner also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

As for South Bend Riley, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-6. Considering they have won five matchups by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On South Bend Riley's side, CHLOE WHITMER was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases WHITMER has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was KALIA PERSON, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Michigan City will square off against Marquette Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for South Bend Riley, they will take on Argos at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
