Softball Recap: Clay Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Clay dropped their record down to 14-10 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Middleburg Broncos, falling 17-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Devils of the 14-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Clay saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amiah Carrubba, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for Middleburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

On Middleburg's side, Cloey Ballinger made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ballinger was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Middleburg got a massive performance out of KK Hagan, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Hagan has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Strickland, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

As of now, neither Clay nor Middleburg have any future games scheduled.
