Soccer Game Preview: Watervliet vs. Saugatuck

The Watervliet Panthers will challenge the Saugatuck Trailblazers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Watervliet's last three matches have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

If Watervliet beats Saugatuck with two goals on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Panthers skirted past Michigan Lutheran 2-1. That's two games straight that Watervliet have won by just one goal.

Meanwhile, Saugatuck had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They never let the Blackhawks get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. Saugatuck's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three games.

Neave Rewa and Ava Tringali scored both of Saugatuck's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 12 goals.

Saugatuck's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three matches. As for Watervliet, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 5-3-1.
