Softball Recap: Clewiston Comes Up Short

Clewiston extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 2-13. They came up short against the Sebring Blue Streaks, falling 12-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Streaks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-1 back in March.

As for Sebring, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Sebring's part, Amber Young made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Young has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Callie Keppel, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Lilyana Shen was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Clewiston will venture away from home to challenge Okeechobee at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Brahmans have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Sebring, they will head out to take on Winter Haven at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
