St. Thomas More Academy dropped down to 5-4 on Friday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Thales Academy Apex Titans by a score of 10-9. The Chancellors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Titans earlier this season, when they won 14-4.
Caparoni Nello was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because St. Thomas More Academy is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise. Nello was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Nello is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, St. Thomas More Academy got a massive performance out of Nicco Caparoni, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and three RBI. Caparoni is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was David Peters, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Thales Academy Apex, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like St. Thomas More Academy, Thales Academy Apex also got a great game from a two-way player: Daniel Speight. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Speight was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ethan Stein was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. Will Anderson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, St. Thomas More Academy will host Thales Academy Rolesville on Monday. The Chancellors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 13.4 runs per game this season. As for Thales Academy Apex, they will venture away from home to face off against Cary Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
