Fossil Ridge is 2-7 against Rocky Mountain since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The SaberCats are taking a road trip to take on the Lobos at 4:30 p.m. One thing working in Fossil Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
On Saturday, Fossil Ridge made easy work of Heritage and carried off a 12-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the SaberCats, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Vedant Sharma looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Owen Morgan, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Luc Gaca-Thiele was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
Fossil Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Rocky Mountain and Douglas County, and Douglas County kept the tradition alive. The Lobos fell 6-3 to the Huskies on Saturday.
Rocky Mountain saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ross Frank, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Fossil Ridge's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rocky Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fossil Ridge has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rocky Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fossil Ridge beat Rocky Mountain 7-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the SaberCats repeat their success, or do the Lobos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
