Softball Game Preview: Monmouth Academy Mustangs vs. Hall-Dale Bulldogs

The Monmouth Academy Mustangs will face off against the Hall-Dale Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Monmouth Academy sitting on 12 straight victories and Hall-Dale on three.

Monmouth Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Lisbon, who was ranked 21st at the time (Monmouth Academy was ranked sixth). The Mustangs put the hurt on the Greyhounds with a sharp 9-1 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Hall-Dale was able to grind out a solid victory over Oak Hill on Thursday, taking the game 5-2.

Lucy Gray made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jade Graham was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Hall-Dale hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.

Hall-Dale's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Monmouth Academy, their win bumped their record up to 12-0.
