After losing to Christiansburg the last time they met, Abingdon decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Blue Demons on Tuesday. Considering the Falcons have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Muriel Dillow and Mariah Branscomb did most of the damage at the plate: Dillow went 1-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Branscomb went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Branscomb has posted since back in April. Maggie Crabtree was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
Abingdon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Christiansburg only posted a batting average of .211.
Abingdon's record is now 18-3. As for Christiansburg, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5.
Coming up, Abingdon will head out on the road to square off against Ridgeview at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Falcons 4, the Wolfpack 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Christiansburg, they will be playing at home against William Byrd at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
