Volleyball Recap: Saint Ignatius College Prep Comes Up Short

Saint Ignatius College Prep lost against Loyola Academy back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Wolfpack fell just short of the Ramblers by a score of 2-1. The Wolfpack have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Saint Ignatius College Prep started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-20, 25-23.

Despite the loss, Saint Ignatius College Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Matthew Wilkison had eight digs and two aces. Nick Larned also deserves some recognition as he served his first aces of the season.

Saint Ignatius College Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Loyola Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season.

Saint Ignatius College Prep and Loyola Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Wolfpack (ranked 140th) will meet Riverside-Brookfield (ranked 45th) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Loyola Academy will challenge Oak Park-River Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (74 vs. 8).
