Recap: Gretna Hawks vs. Glenvar Highlanders
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Gretna Hawks can now relate to. They took a 38-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Glenvar. Gretna's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Gretna's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Melvin Wooden, who threw for 289 yards and a touchdown while completing 84% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Gunn, who picked up 188 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Gretna's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Glenvar, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Gretna does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Glenvar will head out on the road to face off against Radford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Radford knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 games -- so hopefully Glenvar likes a good challenge.
