Basketball Game Preview: Mitchell Mustangs vs. East Lake Eagles

The Mitchell Mustangs will take on the East Lake Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mitchell will be strutting in after a win while East Lake will be coming in after a defeat.

Mitchell will head into Tuesday's game hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 33-point drubbing they dealt Winthrop College Prep Academy on Tuesday. Mitchell blew past Winthrop College Prep Academy 67-34. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, East Lake was beaten by Sunlake 56-20 on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 564th, while the Seahawks are ranked 164th).

East Lake dropped their record down to 2-9 with the loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Mitchell, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Mitchell was able to grind out a solid victory over East Lake in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 53-41. Will Mitchell repeat their success, or does East Lake have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
