Softball Game Preview: Dunbar Tigers vs. Island Coast Gators

Dunbar hasn't had much luck against Island Coast recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dunbar Tigers will venture away from home to challenge the Island Coast Gators at 7:00 p.m. Dunbar has given up an average of 19.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Dunbar is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against Lehigh, falling 25-9. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ziya Chambers made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-2. Diana Cano-Mendez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 1-for-1.

Even though they lost, Dunbar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Island Coast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 16-4 to Everglades City.

Island Coast saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brianna Neitzke, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. What's more, Neitzke posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

Island Coast's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Dunbar, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Dunbar might still be hurting after the 16-5 loss they got from Island Coast in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Dunbar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
