Recap: Tri-Central Trojans vs. Sheridan Blackhawks

If the Tri-Central Trojans were riding high off their 65-35 takedown of the Waldron Mohawks last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Tri-Central opened the new year with a less-than-successful 64-57 loss to Sheridan. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Stetson Newcom, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The contest was Newcom's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Landon Grant was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

Even though they lost, Tri-Central were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Sheridan found their leader in underclassman Trey Page, who scored 25 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Winston, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four blocks.

Tri-Central has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season. As for Sheridan, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.

Tri-Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Wes-Del at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th. Wes-Del is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Sheridan won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Rossville at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th.
