Basketball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Sickles' Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Sickles extended their postseason success on Thursday against Sunlake. They walked away with a 72-63 victory over the Sunlake Seahawks. That's two games straight that the Gryphons have won by exactly nine points.

Sickles got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kelsey Sharpe out in front who went 8-for-14 to rack up 25 points along with six steals and five boards. Sharpe is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 40 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jadyn Watts, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Sunlake lost, don't look at Cherity Powells. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards. Dawn Figuero was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Sickles is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points over those games. Sunlake's defeat dropped their record down to 17-8.

Sickles wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-46 victory against Charlotte on the 18th. Sunlake does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
