Basketball Recap: Julie Azeltine's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Oconee County over Calhoun

Oconee County and Calhoun squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Oconee County had to settle for second. They received a blow as they fell 56-37 to the Calhoun Yellow Jackets. The Warriors have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Oconee County's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julie Azeltine, who posted eight points and three steals. Azeltine is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliza Oechsle, who put up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Oconee County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Oconee County's defeat dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Calhoun, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Oconee County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Calhoun, they will take on Pickens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pickens will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Calhoun surely won't give up without a fight.
