Preview: Red Bluff Spartans vs. Foothill Cougars
Red Bluff is 1-9 against Foothill since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Red Bluff Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Foothill Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Red Bluff is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Red Bluff lost to Enterprise at home by a decisive 55-39 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Red Bluff in their matchups with Enterprise: they've now lost nine in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Eli Hohenberger, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, even though Chico scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Foothill still came out on top. Foothill skirted past Chico 60-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Foothill has posted yet this season.
Foothill's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Zanhiser, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Cruz, who scored 15 points along with five assists.
Red Bluff's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Foothill, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Red Bluff have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Foothill, though, as they've been averaging only 27.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Red Bluff lost to Foothill on the road by a decisive 58-44 margin in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Red Bluff, Hudson Edwards (who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
