Basketball Recap: Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica needed a changed in momentum after dropping three straight games and they got it from Darren Awili. The Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica Seawolves blew past the Sotomayor Wolves 69-48 on Monday thanks in part to Awili, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 21 rebounds. He has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 14 times he's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of London Johnson, who went 7 for 11 en route to 19 points. Those 19 points gave him a new career-high.

Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jorge Penaloza, who posted 24 points. Bryan Hernandez was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Sotomayor, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-11.

Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica has already played their next matchup, a 75-49 defeat against Oakwood on the 23rd. As for Sotomayor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 85-43 victory against Maywood Academy on the 22nd.
