Football Recap: Tazayvion Townsend's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Newton over Pelahatchie

Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost to the Pelahatchie Chiefs at home by a 48-34 margin.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tazayvion Townsend, who rushed for 55 yards and two TDs, and also picked up 38 receiving yards and one touchdown. Another receiver making a difference was Jymarques Holder, who picked up 82 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Pelahatchie, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Newton will take on rival Scott Central at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. Meanwhile, Pelahatchie is set to challenge their familiar foe Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
