Basketball Recap: Lester Prairie Bulldogs vs. Springfield Tigers
If Lester Prairie was riding high fresh off their 76-55 takedown of New Ulm Cathedral last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lester Prairie Bulldogs were dealt a 97-59 defeat at the hands of the Springfield Tigers on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 87-82 back in December of 2024.
Springfield was led to victory by Brecken Heiling and Brayden Sturm. Heiling went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 31 points, while Sturm almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine assists. Sturm has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 14 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Simonson, who posted 12 points.
Lester Prairie's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Springfield, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 17-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lester Prairie will take on Sleepy Eye at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Springfield, they will challenge Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
