Two dominant signal callers in Kingston Jeffries and Joe Fernandez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Eastwood Troopers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pebble Hills Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Pebble Hills will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Eastwood extended their winning streak to six on Friday. The Troopers were the clear victors by a 49-26 margin over Franklin. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.
Eastwood found their leader in sophomore Jeffries, who threw for 338 yards and five touchdowns while completing 78.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 92 yards and one score. Matthew Ramirez really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 79 yards. Jordan Nava was Jeffries' top target, picking up 32 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Eastwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 236 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 212 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pebble Hills). They breezed past Montwood to the tune of 62-21 on Friday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Pebble Hills found their leader in sophomore Fernandez, who rushed for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 315 yards and two TDs while completing 78.9% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Kahlib Price, who rushed for 66 yards and one score on only nine carries.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Pebble Hills' defense and their three sacks. Jaime Ortega was especially locked on to Montwood's QB and sacked him 2.5 times. Ortega also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten.
Eastwood's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Pebble Hills, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Eastwood has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 238.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pebble Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 187 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Eastwood was taken down by Pebble Hills 43-14 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Troopers, Zereian Quarles (who rushed for 308 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 17.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 47 receiving yards and one score) won't be suiting up this time.
