Baseball Game Preview: Moffat County Bulldogs vs. Coal Ridge Titans

The Moffat County Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Coal Ridge Titans at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Moffat County has struggled recently with 12 losses in a row, while Coal Ridge will arrive with seven straight wins.

Things were looking good for Moffat County after they put the first runs on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Meeker, falling 18-7.

Meanwhile, Coal Ridge made easy work of Battle Mountain on Tuesday and carried off an 11-5 victory. Considering the Titans have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ben Simons was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, George Roberts was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jakson Slade was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Coal Ridge pushed their record up to 11-2-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Moffat County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.

Moffat County might still be hurting after the 19-4 loss they got from Coal Ridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
