Football Recap: Chase Schoolcraft's Menacing Defense Leads Calhoun over Webster County

Calhoun hadn't done well against Webster County recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Red Devils came out on top against the Highlanders by a score of 41-28. The Red Devils didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Brennen Carpenter had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 92 yards and three scores. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another big playmaker for Calhoun was Chase Schoolcraft, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

Calhoun didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Schoolcraft led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Webster County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ryder Wright picked up 112 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 119 yards and one TD on only 14 carries. Wright got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 67 yards. Eli Amos was another key player, rushing for 100 yards and one score on only 14 carries.

Calhoun's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-6. As for Webster County, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun will head out to face off against Ritchie County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Webster County, they will venture away from home to challenge Pocahontas County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
