Basketball Game Preview: Heritage Coyotes vs. Wakeland Wolverines

Heritage and Wakeland are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Heritage Coyotes will challenge the Wakeland Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.

Last Tuesday, Heritage was able to grind out a solid victory over Independence, taking the game 69-58. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Knights are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Heritage can attribute much of their success to Cameron Lomax, who went 7-for-12 to rack up 18 points and three steals, and Bryson Howard, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. The matchup was Lomax's 14th in a row with at least 16 points. Mikhail Patel was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Wakeland didn't have quite enough to beat The Colony on Tuesday and fell 63-60. The Wolverines have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Wakeland's loss dropped their record down to 21-12. As for Heritage, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 28-4.

Heritage beat Wakeland 59-49 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Will Heritage repeat their success, or does Wakeland have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
