Chesterton proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 17) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Valparaiso Vikings 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since April 21st.

Payton Cherep spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hannah Florian, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Smith, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Chesterton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Valparaiso, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7-1.

Coming up, Chesterton will square off against Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Valparaiso, they will face off against Andrean at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
