Baseball Game Preview: Horizon Huskies vs. Pinnacle Pioneers

The Horizon Huskies will venture away from home to face off against the Pinnacle Pioneers at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Horizon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Horizon needed a bit of extra time to put away Notre Dame Prep. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Saints, sneaking past 4-2. The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Saints on their field since May 9, 2019.

Connor McDonald tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Colten Figueroa, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Pinnacle was able to grind out a solid win over Higley on Monday, taking the game 6-2.

Pinnacle also got a great performance from Dean Duran as he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Duran is becoming a predictor of Pinnacle's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is undefeated (and 5-7-1 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Raul Escobar was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Erik Moo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Pinnacle now has a winning record of 8-7-1. As for Horizon, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Horizon was able to grind out a solid victory over Pinnacle in their previous meeting back in March, winning 7-2. Will Horizon repeat their success, or does Pinnacle has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
