Softball Recap: Hononegah Victorious

Hononegah came out on top against Freeport on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Indians took their contest against the Pretzels 7-4. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Pretzels: they've now won eight in a row.

The team relied heavily on Kaelyn Kelly, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Kelly, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.

Hononegah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.

Hononegah's record is now 21-3. As for Freeport, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-21 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hononegah will take on Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The J-Hawks will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Freeport, they will face off against Belvidere at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
