Baseball Game Preview: Fort Cherry Rangers vs. Avella Eagles

The Fort Cherry Rangers are taking a road trip to take on the Avella Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fort Cherry will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

On Tuesday, Fort Cherry needed a bit of extra time to put away California. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 12-7.

Ryan Huey looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Colton Temple was excellent, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5. Ben Demascal also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Fort Cherry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.

Avella came out on top against Carmichaels on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Mighty Mikes with a sharp 11-1 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Fort Cherry's record is now 15-0. As for Avella, their record now sits at 12-6.

Fort Cherry got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Avella by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rangers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
