Baseball Recap: Middletown Find Success

Middletown barely beat Willits the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Middletown Mustangs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Willits Wolverines a 7-0 shutout on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Cody Perez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Perez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jon Hawkins, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Cody De Jong, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Middletown's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-1-1. As for Willits, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

Coming up, Middletown will be taking part in a tournament against Durham at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Willits, they will venture away from home to square off against Marin Academy at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
