Basketball Recap: Asya Lara Barnes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead DME Academy over IMG Academy

DME Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 54-52 heartbreaker at the hands of the IMG Academy Ascenders. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since February 12, 2021, but that streak is no more.

DME Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Asya Lara Barnes, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 15 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. GiGi Battle was another key player, putting up 15 points.

DME Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 24-9. As for IMG Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

As of now, neither DME Academy nor IMG Academy have any future games scheduled.
