Baseball Game Preview: Hulbert Riders vs. Porter Pirates

The Hulbert Riders will challenge the Porter Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Hulbert is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 17-3 margin over Webbers Falls on Monday. The Riders haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Ethan Thompson and Logan Beeler made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Thompson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Beeler tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Thompson scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-4, while Beeler scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Thompson has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jarrett Crawdord, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Crawdord is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Shane Hubbard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Porter, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Drumright on Tuesday, sneaking past 16-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since April 9, 2024.

Hulbert's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Porter, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.

Hulbert might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Porter in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Hulbert avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
