Vermilion Catholic had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.6 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They blew past the Gueydan Bears, posting a 59-21 win. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while the Bears are ranked 379th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Vermilion Catholic pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 18.8 points per game. As for Gueydan, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-21.
