Basketball Game Preview: Raton Tigers vs. Clayton Yellowjackets

The Raton Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Clayton Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Raton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Raton duked it out with Pecos on Thursday. Raton took a 56-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pecos.

Despite the defeat, Raton had strong showings from Wyatt Berry, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds, and Chase Walton, who went 6-for-12 en route to 12 points in addition to five boards and four blocks. Walton has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Petrini, who posted four points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Raton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 20 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, everything went Clayton's way against Estancia on Thursday as Clayton made off with a 65-44 win.

Raton's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Clayton, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.

Raton skirted past Clayton 64-61 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Raton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
