Softball Game Preview: East Columbus Gators vs. Heide Trask Titans

For the second straight game, East Columbus will face off against Heide Trask. The Gators are taking a road trip to take on the Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. East Columbus will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

East Columbus made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Heide Trask, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Gators' pitcher stepped up to hand the Titans a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Heide Trask's batters probably weren't too happy with Gracie Coyle, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (she gave up six walks). Coyle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Skylah Collins was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aleigh Godwin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

East Columbus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in nine consecutive games.

East Columbus pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Heide Trask, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. East Columbus has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. However, it's not like Heide Trask struggles in that department as they've averaged .504. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
