Baseball Recap: Flora Comes Up Short

Flora extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 12-14. They lost 10-0 to the Edwards County Lions. If the Wolves were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Lions when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Edwards County, they pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Edwards County's part, Jackson Hensley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Hensley has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Edwards County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jax Duncan, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Edwards County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Drew Roosevelt was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Flora will face off against Effingham at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Edwards County, they will square off against Farina South Central at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
