Volleyball Recap: Point Loma Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Olivia Karvelis and Reece Thomas + How To Watch

Point Loma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patrick Henry Patriots. The Pointers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Patrick Henry scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 19-25, 25-17, 25-22.

Point Loma's loss came despite strong showings from Reece Thomas and Olivia Karvelis. Thomas had 15 digs and two aces, while Karvelis had 13 digs and seven assists. Karvelis is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Patrick Henry found their leader in sophomore Natalie Rynard, who had 43 assists and 11 digs. Brooke Daney also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Point Loma's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Patrick Henry, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-11.

Point Loma and Patrick Henry should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Pointers will take on Mission Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (107 vs. 226). Meanwhile, Patrick Henry (ranked 152nd) will meet University City (ranked 383rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
