Recap: Stanton Mustangs vs. Neligh-Oakdale Warriors
On Thursday, Stanton came up short against Neligh-Oakdale and fell 52-39.
Mitchell Hupp and Tanner Simmerman certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Hupp dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while Simmerman scored five points along with 15 rebounds and three blocks. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him.
Even though they lost, Stanton were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Chase Furstenau continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Neligh-Oakdale, scoring 36 points. The game was Furstenau's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Colson Krebs was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Stanton's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Neligh-Oakdale, their win bumped their record up to an identical 1-7.
Stanton will finish 2023 at home by hosting Hartington-Newcastle at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Hartington-Newcastle is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. Neligh-Oakdale won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lutheran-Northeast at 7:15 p.m. on December 29th. Lutheran-Northeast is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
