Basketball Game Preview: The Carmel School Wildcats vs. New Covenant Gryphons

The Carmel School Wildcats will challenge the New Covenant Gryphons at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Carmel School knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 27 games -- so hopefully New Covenant likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, The Carmel School strolled past Grace Christian School with points to spare, taking the game 89-75.

The Carmel School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Watson led the charge by en route to 27 points along with five assists and five steals. With that strong performance, Watson is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Edoardo Marra, who to rack up 18 points and three steals.

The Carmel School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and New Covenant had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against Christ Chapel Academy on Tuesday as New Covenant made off with a 65-41 win. The Gryphons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 22 points or more this season.

The Carmel School pushed their record up to 17-10 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.8 points over those games. As for New Covenant, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-8.
