Basketball Recap: Southwest Comes Up Short

Southwest was the 49-41 winner over Perkins County when they last played one another back in February of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Southwest Roughriders took a blow against the Perkins County Plainsmen on Thursday, falling 75-37. While losing is never fun, the Roughriders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Plainsmen are ranked 72nd).

Despite the loss, Southwest still got an impressive performance from Houston Billeter, who posted 26 points and five rebounds. That was a full 70.3% of Southwest's points, marking the 15th time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Southwest's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Perkins County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-4.

Looking ahead, Southwest will take on Wallace at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Perkins County, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bayard at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Perkins County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
