Basketball Recap: Chula Vista Takes a Loss

Chula Vista had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-11 to make it five. They came up short against the West Hills Wolf Pack, falling 76-50. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1084th, while the Wolf Pack are ranked 479th).

As for West Hills, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points over those games.

West Hills found their leader in sophomore Malekai Dillon, who went 11-for-18 to rack up 27 points in addition to five boards and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dillon has scored all season. Ethen Shaw was another key player, putting up eight points and nine assists.

Looking ahead, Chula Vista won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Southwest SD at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans will need to watch out since the Raiders have now posted at least 55 points in their last six games. As for West Hills, they will host El Capitan at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolf Pack will be up against the Vaqueros' rather soft defense (which has allowed 59.88 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
