Basketball Recap: West Broward Bobcats vs. Somerset Academy Panthers
West Broward managed to keep up with Somerset Academy until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The West Broward Bobcats lost 83-62 to the Somerset Academy Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 505th, while the Panthers are ranked 160th).

Loss or not, West Broward got some senior leadership from Bedirhan Menguc and Matthew Martinez. Menguc dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 boards, while Martinez went 8 of 16 en route to 22 points and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Menguc has scored all season.
Leading Somerset Academy to victory were Jayden Alcine and Xavier Anderson. Alcine went 11 for 18 on his way to 26 points and five assists, while Anderson went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and seven steals. That's the most points Alcine has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Smith, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points in addition to six assists and three steals.
West Broward's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-12. As for Somerset Academy, they moved to 13-11 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
West Broward has already played their next contest (against Plantation), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Somerset Academy has also has no score uploaded for their next matchup, this one against Franklin Academy.
