It was a good run, but Olympia unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against the Cypress Creek Bears, falling 3-0. While Olympia had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-19, 25-18.
Leonardo Nabut paced Olympia's offense, picking up ten kills. Nabut got some help from Brandon Liu and his 17 assists. Finally, Kyle Liang kept Olympia's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.
Cypress Creek was led to victory by Anthony Nguyen and Kidiel Maldonado. Nguyen had 12 digs, while Maldonado had 35 assists and one block. Maldonado is crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 13 every time he's taken the court this season. Isaiah Votteler also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.
Olympia's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Cypress Creek, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-3.
Olympia has already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Windermere on the 16th. As for Cypress Creek, they will head out to challenge Victory Charter School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
