The Island Coast Gators will venture away from home to square off against the Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Island Coast is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Island Coast barely beat North Port the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Island Coast never let North Port get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Gators in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won four in a row.
The result came thanks to Ryan Mueller's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Jayven Torres was incredible, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Tuduri, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Charlotte fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Port Charlotte on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Fightin' Tarpons couldn't push the score so high this time.
Charlotte saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Klossner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Charlotte's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Island Coast, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Charlotte's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Island Coast hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. It's a different story for Charlotte, though, as they've only averaged .252. Will they be able to contain Island Coast's hitters?
Island Coast couldn't quite finish off Charlotte in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can Island Coast avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
