Softball Recap: Griffith Starts Season with Victory Against Merrillville

Griffith gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Merrillville Pirates as they made off with a 19-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won six in a row.

Brylie Bridges and Cheyanne Fant made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bridges pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Fant pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Bridges went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Fant scored two runs while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Laney Poppa was incredible, scoring four runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Bella Dawes, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Griffith will square off against Chesterton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Merrillville, they will head out to take on Hammond Morton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
