Softball Recap: Wirt County Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Wirt County waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They didn't even let the Hannan Wildcats on the board, marking their second-straight 15-0 shutout. Give the Tigers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Adi Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kinsley Nicolais and Kylee Ross did most of the damage at the plate: Nicolais got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Ross went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Nicolais a new career-high. Allison Neff was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Wirt County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Wirt County's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Hannan, their loss was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-10-1.

Looking ahead, Wirt County will take on Tyler at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hannan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
