Basketball Recap: Eastern Mennonite Comes Up Short

Eastern Mennonite extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-4. They had to suffer through an 84-51 loss at the hands of the Roanoke Catholic Celtics. The Flames were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-29.

Despite the loss, Eastern Mennonite still got an impressive performance from Drayden Wood, who went 9-for-14 on his way to 21 points and six boards. The Flames are 2-1 when Wood posts 15 or more points, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kris Woods, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 11 points and four steals.

As for Roanoke Catholic, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-5. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Eastern Mennonite is ranked 252nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Jayden Johnson, who posted 19 points. The matchup was his third in a row with at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yajae Hairston, who put up 12 points.

Eastern Mennonite wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 62-40 win against Grove Christian School on the 15th. As for Roanoke Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 81-63 victory against George Wythe on the 14th.
