Basketball Recap: Alamo Navajo Takes a Loss

Alamo Navajo fought the good fight in their overtime game against Escalante on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Escalante Lobos by a score of 45-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cougars have suffered since February 3rd.

When it comes to explaining why Alamo Navajo lost, don't look at Andy Pino. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 boards. Pino has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zephaniah Guerro, who posted three points in addition to 17 rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Alamo Navajo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Alamo Navajo now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Escalante, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alamo Navajo will take on Quemado in a holiday battle at at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alamo Navajo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. Escalante and Cuba will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
